October 22th, 2009: Marine Park installs 7 new buoys in front of beach of Klein Bonaire
STINAPA installed 7 new small buoys at Klein Bonaire so more small boats can tie up in front of the beach. The rules for the use of the buoys have remained the same with these extra buoys, meaning a boat can only tie up for a maximum of 2 hours on a mooring. In case another boat arrives and there are no more empty buoys available, the owner of the boat that has been there for more than 2 hours has to remove his boat to give others a chance to use it.
Recently staff of STINAPA’s National Underwater Park installed 7 new small moorings at the beach of Klein Bonaire. These are especially for small boats with a maximum length of 17 feet. Nowadays there are more people with boats and businesses that rent small boats. This all led to an intensification of the visits to Klein Bonaire and regular shortage of mooring capacity. As it is illegal to use anchors in the waters around Bonaire and Klein Bonaire, STINAPA took it upon itself to provide more moorings.
The beach at Klein Bonaire is one of the few with white sand. These additional buoys will give more people the opportunity to take their boat to Klein Bonaire and enjoy this unique spot.
The moorings at Klein Bonaire have the same rules as all other buoys around Bonaire, which state that a boat can stay moored for a maximum of 2 hours. If another boat arrives and the first boat has been moored for over 2 hours, the first boat has to leave in order to give the second boat a chance. The new small moorings at Klein Bonaire only allow one small boat to tie on. At all other moorings a maximum of 3 small boats are allowed to tie on behind each other. It is not allowed to tie more than one boat measuring more than 17 feet to the large moorings. Yachts are allowed to have a rubber dinghy tied on. When attaching a boat to the mooring a rope has to be run through the loop at the end of the rope on the mooring. It is not allowed to use this rope to directly tie up the boat.
