October 7th, 2009: MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE CAME TO CELEBRATE ANIMAL DAY 2009
In connection with International Animal Day, STINAPA, together with the Animal Shelter Foundation and veterinarian Fulco de Vries, we organized an activity in the “Parke Publiko”. More than 200 people took their house pets to the park on Sunday October 4th. There was a competition of who took best care of their pet, and the winner would win a 60 second free shopping spree at Cultimara Supermarket.
Veterinarian Fulco de Vries was present to inspect all the animals. He was checking the overall condition of the pets, nutrition levels, the condition of their skin, eyes, ears, etc. He would also observe the behavior of the animals around other pets and humans. There were four people on the jury; next to doctor de Vries there was Ms. Jos Klamer, dog-trainer of “Bon Barking” dog obedience school, Mrs. Vicky Bissessar of the “We dare to care” foundation and Mr. Oswin Cristina, president of Lionsclub Bonaire. They all worked very hard to determine which of the 36 entries would win the prizes.
For the little ones there was also a lot to do. There was a drawing competition, a giant air mattress, and a Magician’s show by Magic Ed. More than 25 kids took part in the drawing competition and the winners were Nashenka Melaan, Bo van Kouwen and Mikyla Klamm.
Mrs. Mirna Soleana and her baby goat Billy Boy took home the main prize; a 60 second free shopping spree at Cultimara Supermarket!
The Lionsclub Bonaire decided to come up with a huge surprise: the Animal Shelter received a donation of Nafl. 500,- awarded by Mr. Oswin Cristina.
The other prizes for best-kept house pets went to Ms. Sandra, (Nafl. 200,- shopping coupon for Bonaire Warehouse), Zairen Rosaria (Introductory dive for 2 persons at Dive Friends Bonaire), Nashenka Melaan (trip on the Aquaspace yacht), Syrill Floranus (kayak trip for 2 persons at Mangrove Infocenter), Mikyla Klam (adventure excursion with STINAPA Rangers), Bo van Kouwen ( 1 extra large pizza at Pasa Bon Pizza), Rob van de Vecht (Animal-care package), and Kylsoon Aoikhan (2 tickets to the Butterflyfarm). Paradise Photo provided all winners with a large print of themselves with their pets.
