September 7th, 2009: Three rangers promoted at STINAPA
Recently three rangers from STINAPA with the rank of “Assistant Ranger” were promoted to “Ranger’ after having successfully followed all the required courses for their new position.
One of the goals of STINAPA is to have the job of Ranger demand the proper respect on the island of Bonaire. To attain that goal a policy was introduced that in order to become a “STINAPA Ranger” one had to follow a certain amount of courses. Every employee enters the foundation’s service as an “Assistant Ranger”, and they keep that rank until all required courses have been concluded successfully.
The courses that have to be taken are: all dive courses up to “Rescue Diver’, First Aid, Basic Mechanic, Basic computer, Navigation, Radio Operator, Public Speaking/Tour Guide, Basic knowledge about the STINAPA Foundation, Basic Geology, Geology of the Washington Slagbaai National Park, Ecology of the Washington Slagbaai National Park, Basic Biology, Biology of the Washington Slagbaai National Park, Ecology of the Bonaire National Marine Park, History of the Bonaire National Marine Park, and History of the Washington Slagbaai National Park and finally, knowledge of our trees and birds.
The persons graduating were Joi Jenkins, Ruthsel Paula and Jerrel Martis.Gezaghebber Glenn Thodé attached the official insignia of “Ranger” to the uniform shirts of the graduates, while the president of the foundation, Evo Cicilia, handed them their certificates of recognition. After the official part of the ceremony those present had the opportunity to congratulate the new Rangers and had a celebratory drink at the ‘Paradise Moon’.
