August 22nd, 2007: Tremendous event held by STINAPA together with Radio Digital

The event team; DJ Captain Goilo, Karen van Dijk, Crisanta Martha and DJ Indjo RasKralendijk, recently STINAPA Bonaire held an event with bumper stickers on Kaya Grandi in front of Digicel. This event was organized as part of the STINAPA communication campaign called “NOS TA BIBA DI NATURALESA”.
The team that put the event together consisted of Crisanta Martha, coordinator of the educational department of STINAPA, Karen van Dijk, communication coordinator of STINAPA, together with DJ Indjo Ras and DJ Captain Goilo of Radio Digital.

It was very easy to participate in the event; anyone driving through Kaya Grandi who had the bumper sticker on their car was a participant, and had a good chance to win one of many great prizes. The sponsors of the “NOS TA BIBA DI NATURALESA” had donated the following prizes;

Crisanta Martha and DJ Indjo RasThe bumper sticker itself portrays the campaign logo, which consists of the sun, a flamingo, a fish and a cactus, each representing the four elements; fire, air, water and land
Humans are central in all of this. And humans depend on nature. But humans can also influence nature positively and negatively. And as nature is the core of our tourism-based economy the slogan “NOS TA BIBA DI NATURALESA” was chosen for Bonaire.
We don’t realize it all the time, but we are a tourist island. Tourists from all over the globe converge here to enjoy the sun, the sea, the tranquility and the large unspoiled natural areas of the island.
It is obvious that, for instance, a taxi-driver makes his living off nature. But the same goes for hotel owners and their staff, restaurants and dive-shops. But indirectly many more people make their living through nature-related tourism. A baker not only produces bread for the local people, but also for the tourists. The harbor-workers do not only offload cargo for the Bonaireans. And so on. And all these people pay taxes to the government that in turn allows the government to pay wages to public employees, put asphalt on roads or repair them etc.
So, just like our ancestors, we live off nature. Except maybe they did it more directly. They did leave us beautifully painted figures on the cave-walls that now serve as tourist- attractions, and were the inspiration for the “NOS TA BIBA DI NATURALESA” theme symbols and also the painting style of the logos.

In November STINAPA plans to organize another bumper sticker event. This time in Rincon. More information about this event will be given out in the coming period. For those who do not have a bumper sticker on their car yet, they can pick one up at TCB,  the STINAPA office, Flamingo Bookstore or Lisa Gas & convenience store.

Let’s all take care of our nature, so the coming generations may also enjoy it and provide for their families through it.
