July 13th, 2007: Enjoying the beach at night
Lately the staff of STINAPA and STCB has been paying lots of attention to people building campfires on the beach in the evening; making open fire on the beach is not allowed. They have been doing their rounds especially during full moon. Recently Elsmarie saw firelight on the beach at Pal’i Mangel. She got out of the car to check closely what was going on. It was a beautiful surprise; a group of locals were enjoying an evening with friends on the beach and they had lit a variety of large candles to create the nice atmosphere that a campfire can bring with itself. The person who came up with this idea must have such a great love for his island that he went as far as to be creative in order to create the nice atmosphere of a campfire while still protecting the environment by not polluting the beach with charcoal and possibly destroy a turtle nest. This person is Franki Winklaar, the son of Rosmarie Winklaar. After 22 years that Franki has been living in Holland, he came to Bonaire to spend a holiday with his mother. Franki has the right attitude and from the part of Stinapa we want to extend words of admiration to him. Franki also knows that here on Bonaire, “Nature is our livelyhood”.
Genieten van de natuur
De afgelopen tijd besteedt het personeel van STINAPA en STCB veel aandacht aan mensen die ‘s avonds kampvuur maken op het strand. Er wordt voornamelijk bij volle maan gepatrouilleerd; openvuur aanmaken op de strand is namelijk een overtreding. Recentelijk zag Elsemarie op het strand bij Pal’I Mangel een vuurtje. Ze stapte uit de auto en ging van dichtbij kijken wat er aan de hand was. Het was een prachtige verrassing; een groep lokale bewoners genoot met vrienden van een avondje op het strand. Ze hadden een diversiteit aan grote kaarsen branden om de fijne atmosfeer te creëren die een vuurtje teweeg kan brengen. Degene die op deze gedachte is gekomen moet een enorme liefde hebben voor zijn eiland dat hij zo ver is gegaan om met creativiteit toch een warme atmosfeer te creëren door een kampvuur na te bootsen en tegelijkertijd rekening te houden met de natuur door het strand niet te vervuilen met houtskool of een zeeschildpadden nest te vernielen. Deze persoon is Franki Winklaar, zoon van Rosemarie Winklaar. Na 22 jaar te hebben gewoond in Nederland is Franki op vakantie bij zijn moeder. Franki heeft de juiste houding en namens STINAPA willen wij Franki woorden van bewondering toespreken. Franki snapt ook dat hier op Bonaire “Leven We van de Natuur”.
