Nature and Environment Education - COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN STINAPA Bonaire successfully manages the two nature parks of Bonaire, and communicates in many different ways with the visitors of the Bonaire National Marine Park and the Washington Slagbaai National Park. However, the communication with the general public (older than 18 years) and some of the stakeholders of Bonaire, fell behind. This is painfully noticeable in comments made by a small group of residents, that shows a decrease of awareness and involvement and no sense of ownership. Most of these comments are originated by misconceptions and a lack of information and communication. To avoid an increase of this group, it is of great importance to adequately offer information concerning the importance of nature conservation and a sustainable development of Bonaire. Bonaire’s nature is the green engine of our economy. Our economy is mostly supported by tourism, and our tourism is based on our nature. Visitors come from all over the world to enjoy the sun, sea, tranquillity, space and nature that Bonaire has to offer. More than half of all businesses are linked to tourism. For this reason STINAPA Bonaire decided, to develop a communication plan that specifically targets the general public (older than 18 years) and some of the stakeholders of Bonaire.
